As a silversmith working in the 21st century, Shinta Nakajima seeks to confront the question: ‘Why do we decorate?’. In this new body of work, he aims to renew the ornamentation in silversmithing by re-observing the Acanthus form that is retained as the “semiotic decoration”. Using subjective observing and silversmithing techniques, Nakajima preserves the beauty of the Acanthus in its original state, with the rhythm of dense foliage, chips and stains.
