‘American Dream’ is a series of five unique anthropomorphic stools by Saelia Aparicio.
The works are made of stained, dyed and hand-painted plywood representing five women with different physiognomies and ethnic backgrounds. Michaela, Miss Three, Ek, Ariana and Cindy are independent strong women; their tattoos, nail polish and hairstyles symbolise empowerment and freedom of self-expression.
The installation represents the five friends coming together; their cocooning yoga-like position evokes a moment of meditation and introspection. They are all united by a common American Dream: democracy, rights, liberty, opportunity and equality.
