Location: Gallery FUMI, Second Floor, 16 Hoxton Square, London, N1 6NT
On the occasion of The London Design Festival 2016, Gallery FUMI is pleased to announce BLANKENAU, a solo exhibition by Berlin-based designer Lukas Wegwerth.
In this new explorative body of work, Wegwerth begins to uncover new pathways of connecting natural growth with resourceful human interaction.
Named after the area the wood was sourced, BLANKENAU features the strongest elements of an found, organic material and redefines its structure. By whittling down and carving each branch by hand, Wegwerth takes careful consideration into every curve and fork in the wood. The free-form wooden structure with a rasped, burned and shellac finished surface provides a visually striking contrast to the technical quality of the glass.
BLANKENAU has its own organic and complex logic, yet it is also shaped by human action. With an open approach and use of various constructive elements, Wegwerth discovers and transforms new connections. By challenging the form, he rebuilds, redefines and finally uncovers the purpose of each piece.
