Attua Aparicio

Attua Aparicio (b. 1981, Spain) is a London-based artist working in the intersection of design, craft and art. She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2011 with an MA in Design Products. At the core of her practice lays a very experimental and prejudice free way of understanding and working with materials. Her practice is driven by material research and direct hands-on experimentation. She is interested in sustainability, material hybridization and tactility. At the moment she is focused on combining ceramics and waste glass. Collaborations are a fundamental part of her practice. She co-founded Silo Studio with Oscar Lessing and she also collaborates regularly with her sister, artist Saelia Aparicio.

In 2022 she will exhibit “Push-ups’ at Form Design Center, Malmö, during Southern Sweden Design Days. In 2021 she exhibited ‘Push-ups” at Ifö Center, a solo show arranged with the support of the Swedish Art Associations. She was part of the group show ‘Blue jeans & brown clay’ at Kate MacGarry, London, and was awarded 1 Month funded residency at Cove Park, Scotland.

In 2020 she did a duo presentation with Erika Emeren at Collectable, Brussels with MRD Gallery. She also did a 4 months residency at Ifö Center, supported by Bromölla municipality.

In 2019 she was awarded a 3 months residency at Jingdezhen International Studio, China. The residency was co-funded by European Ceramic Workcenter -EKWC- and Taoxicuan Ceramic Art Avenue. The residency was followed by a group touring exhibition ‘A Taste of Ceramics’. Back in London, she exhibited ‘A Boundless World’ a solo show at MDR Gallery.
