Gallery FUMI is pleased to present My Grandfather’s Tree - Ten Years On by Max Lamb in our lower ground floor space, celebrating a decade since the works’ debut at Somerset House in 2015.
This project transforms a 200-year-old ash tree from Lamb’s grandfather’s Yorkshire farm into functional sculptures, preserving its natural structure with minimal processing. Originally felled in 2009, the tree was meticulously cut into 130 logs, each retaining its unique form. Coinciding with his grandfather’s 100th birthday, this work reflects on sustainability, family legacy, and material integrity, demonstrating how design can honour natural resources rather than deplete them.
